DAILY PRAYER

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary, we consecrate ourselves and our whole family to you. We consecrate to You:
Our very being and our whole life.
All that we are.
All that we have.
And all that we love.

To You we give our body, our heart, and our soul. To You we dedicate our home and our country. Mindful of this consecration, we now promise You to live a Christian way of life by the practice of virtues.

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, accept this act of consecration, which I make out of pure love for You.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto Your merciful heart!
Amen.

Common Questions

When is the Two Hearts Novena prayed?
The Two Hearts Novena prepares for two consecutive feasts in June: the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (the Friday after the Octave of Corpus Christi) and the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (the following Saturday). The novena begins nine days before the feast of the Sacred Heart and concludes on its eve. It may also be prayed at any time when seeking the united intercession of Jesus and Mary.
Why is the Sacred Heart of Jesus venerated alongside the Immaculate Heart of Mary?
Catholic tradition recognizes a deep, inseparable union between the Heart of Jesus, source of all redeeming love, and the Heart of his Mother, the first to receive that love. Mary's heart was united to her Son's at Nazareth, at the foot of the Cross, and in the Resurrection, and the Church teaches that her love for him remains the closest of any creature's. Devotion to the Two Hearts honors this bond and asks both hearts together to draw the faithful into the same love.
How are the feast days of the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart connected?
Pope Pius IX extended the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart to the universal Church in A.D. 1856, fixing it on the Friday after the Octave of Corpus Christi. Pope Pius XII elevated the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to the universal calendar in A.D. 1944, and after the Second Vatican Council it was placed on the Saturday immediately following the Sacred Heart, expressing the close link between the two devotions. Praying to the Two Hearts in succession allows the faithful to dwell on this unity for a full liturgical week.
How is this devotion connected to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque and Fatima?
The modern devotion to the Sacred Heart was shaped by the apparitions of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque (A.D. 1647-1690) at the Visitation convent of Paray-le-Monial in France, where Christ revealed his Heart and entrusted to her the Twelve Promises and the practice of the Nine First Fridays. At Fatima in A.D. 1917, Our Lady asked for devotion to her Immaculate Heart and revealed the practice of the Five First Saturdays. The Two Hearts Novena draws these strands together into a single nine-day prayer.
