DAILY PRELIMINARY PRAYER
Be blessed, O most pure Virgin, for having vouchsafed to manifest yourself shining with life, sweetness and beauty, in the Grotto of Lourdes, saying to the child, Saint Bernadette: "I am the Immaculate Conception." A thousand times we congratulate you upon your Immaculate Conception. And now, O ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of mercy, Health of the sick, Refuge of sinners, Comforter of the afflicted, you know our wants, our troubles, our sufferings; deign to cast upon us a look of mercy. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors, and already many have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and physical. We come, therefore, with the most unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain for us, O loving Mother, the granting of our request.
(mention your request).
Through gratitude for your favors, we will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that we may one day share your glory.
Our Lady of Lourdes, Mother of Christ, you had influence with your Divine Son while upon earth. You have the same influence now in Heaven. Pray for us; obtain for us from your Divine Son our special requests if it be the Divine Will.
Amen
Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.

Common Questions
When is the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, and when should I pray this novena?
The feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is celebrated on February 11, the anniversary of her first apparition to Saint Bernadette Soubirous in A.D. 1858. The novena is traditionally prayed from February 2 through February 10, ending on the eve of the feast. Many also pray it at any time when interceding for the sick, since February 11 is also the World Day of the Sick.
Who was Saint Bernadette Soubirous?
Bernadette was a poor 14-year-old miller's daughter from Lourdes, in the foothills of the French Pyrenees, who received eighteen apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in a grotto at Massabielle in A.D. 1858. Despite intense questioning by both Church and civil authorities, her testimony never wavered. She later entered the Sisters of Charity at Nevers, died in A.D. 1879, and was canonized in A.D. 1933.
Why did Our Lady call herself "the Immaculate Conception" at Lourdes?
On March 25, A.D. 1858, when Bernadette asked for her name, the Lady replied in the local Occitan dialect, "Que soy era Immaculada Councepciou" ("I am the Immaculate Conception"). This came just four years after Pope Pius IX had solemnly proclaimed the Immaculate Conception as a dogma of the faith in A.D. 1854. Bernadette did not understand the phrase but repeated it to her parish priest, who recognized it as a powerful confirmation of what the Church had so recently held up for the faithful.
Why is Lourdes associated with healing?
At Our Lady's instruction, Bernadette uncovered a spring at the grotto whose waters have since been associated with countless reported healings. Lourdes today is one of the most visited Marian shrines in the world, and the Church has officially recognized 70 healings as miraculous after careful medical and theological review. The shrine welcomes pilgrims of every condition, especially the sick.
